Will Small is a poet and a spoken word artist, with a heart for justice and youth empowerment.
He has a BA (English Honours) from the Australian National University and wrote a research thesis titled ‘Slamming Hip-hop in Secondary Schools: Rethinking the Ways We Teach Poetry’. Will has worked extensively with young people throughout the ACT and NSW, running hip-hop and poetry workshops in schools, youth justice centres, libraries and universities. Will has competed twice at the Australian National Poetry Slam Final at the Sydney Opera House, been published in Award Winning Australian Writing 2011 and been a feature artist at various events including the ACT Multifringe festival, Amnesty International ‘ARTillery: At Arm's Length’, REVIVE Baptist Conference, KROSSWERDZ Sydney and Central Coast, and The Central Coast Ethical Trade Expo. Will’s work aims to tell the stories of the disadvantaged; to approach complex issues from fresh perspectives; and to point towards hope.
